Curriculum

At St Teresa’s we provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that meets and exceeds the expectations of the National Curriculum while reflecting our Catholic values and mission.
Our aim is that every child is inspired, challenged and supported to achieve their full potential—academically, spiritually, socially and personally.

Our Vision

  • To place reading and writing at the heart of learning, so every child becomes a confident communicator and lifelong reader.

  • To give children a rich knowledge of the world and the skills to question, think critically and make informed choices.

  • To nurture creativity, wellbeing and moral development, preparing pupils to contribute positively to society.

Key Features

  • High-quality reading and writing provision

    • Daily teaching of systematic phonics and early reading using Read Write Inc., supported by the Lacey Green English Hub.

    • A research-informed KS2 reading model: four 30-minute lessons per week combining fluency, prosody and VIPERS comprehension.

    • A whole-school writing approach built on rich texts, explicit grammar teaching and carefully modelled writing, ensuring consistency and technical accuracy.

  • Knowledge-rich subjects with clear progression

    • Every foundation subject—such as Science, History, Geography, Art & Design, Design & Technology, Computing, French and Religious Education—has a sequenced long-term plan and detailed progression of knowledge and skills.

    • We use specialist schemes (e.g. Kapow Primary, Developing Experts, Ruth Miskin RWI) where they add rigour and support teachers with up-to-date resources and CPD.

  • Inclusive and adaptive teaching

    • Lessons are designed for all learners, including those with SEND and pupils who speak English as an Additional Language, so everyone can access and enjoy the full curriculum.

    • Vocabulary is explicitly taught and revisited to remove language barriers and deepen understanding.

  • Enquiry, creativity and real-world links

    • Pupils develop enquiry and problem-solving skills through practical science, fieldwork in geography, creative art and design projects, and purposeful technology tasks.

    • Cross-curricular themes (such as sustainability and global citizenship) help children connect ideas and apply their learning.

How We Plan and Review

  • Long-term and medium-term plans for every subject set out what will be taught and when, ensuring full coverage and progression.

  • Teachers use knowledge organisers, assessment for learning and regular review to check understanding and adapt teaching.

  • Senior leaders monitor and support through lesson study, staff coaching and subject leadership, ensuring quality and consistency.

The Result

Children leave St Teresa’s as confident, knowledgeable and compassionate young people. They read fluently, write with purpose, think critically and creatively, and have a well-rounded understanding of the world—ready for secondary school and for life.
