Geography

At St Teresa’s we teach Geography through the Kapow Primary scheme of work, which provides full coverage of the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 and is closely aligned with Ofsted’s geography research review. Our approach inspires pupils to be curious, enquiring thinkers who can investigate the world and their place within it.

Our Intent

We aim to help children:

  • Develop secure locational, place, human and physical geography knowledge.

  • Build fieldwork and enquiry skills to observe, measure, record and present geographical information.

  • Understand and apply key concepts such as space, scale, interdependence, environment and sustainability.

  • Grow as responsible global citizens who value and care for the natural world.

Our Implementation

  • Enquiry-led learning: Every unit starts with a big question and follows an enquiry cycle – Question, Observe, Measure, Record and Present – so pupils learn how to investigate and draw conclusions.

  • Progressive knowledge and skills: Concepts and skills are revisited in a spiral curriculum, each time in greater depth, ensuring all pupils meet and exceed end-of-key-stage expectations.

  • Fieldwork throughout: From the school grounds to wider local and regional studies, regular fieldwork gives children first-hand geographical experience.

  • Rich, connected curriculum: Lessons are practical and engaging, supported by high-quality resources and knowledge organisers, with cross-curricular links to science, history and sustainability themes.

Our Impact

Children leave St Teresa’s with:

  • Strong geographical knowledge and precise vocabulary.

  • The ability to analyse and present data, compare places and explain geographical processes.

  • A deep appreciation of how Geography shapes people, places and environments, locally and globally.
