At St. Teresa's, science is taught through the nationally recognised Developing Experts scheme of work, giving pupils a rich, knowledge-based curriculum from Nursery to Year 6.
Each unit begins with a big question and high-quality, interactive lessons that build curiosity and secure key scientific knowledge.
Practical investigations and progressive enquiry skills (observing, measuring, testing, predicting and evaluating) are woven through every topic.
Vocabulary is taught explicitly and revisited to strengthen scientific language and understanding.
The scheme provides clear progression of knowledge and skills across all key stages, ensuring pupils revisit and deepen key ideas—from observing seasonal change in EYFS and Year 1 to studying electricity, evolution and inheritance in Year 6.
We enhance this with local experiences, outdoor learning, and links to real-world careers so that science feels purposeful and exciting.

You can also view our Developing Experts Progression of Skills documents, which show how scientific enquiry grows from simple observations in Key Stage 1 to sophisticated investigations in Upper Key Stage 2:
Through Developing Experts we aim for every child to think like a scientist, developing curiosity, critical thinking and a secure foundation for future STEM learning.
