We are the Reception class at Saint Teresa's. In our class we have Mrs Child, Mrs Welsby and Miss Goddard working with us. We look forward to sharing information with you about our class and giving you an insight into our exciting learning experiences in the classroom.
When we arrive in the morning we use our name cards to sign in before enjoying a session of Just Dance fitness, which gets our brains alert and ready for the day ahead. We have our prayer leader who stands at the front of the class and leads our morning prayer, then we sing our days of the week song. Our register is taken and we work out how many children we have in class that day. We also order our lunch from the delicious choices prepared by our cook, Mrs Fitzpatrick, and the kitchen team. We have register helpers who take the register to the office.
We then enjoy singing our letters and sounds song, which focuses our learning for a fun filled phonics session. During the day we have a number of whole class sessions for Literacy, where we may listen to or act out a story or create our own shared piece of writing, or Maths, when we enjoy lots of physical movement as we count, form numbers in the air and create our own number sentences. We will then apply our maths learning in lots of different areas of continuous provision such as chalking patterns outside. We also work in small groups working on maths concepts. We also come together for dough disco which helps to develop our motor control.
We enjoy a lovely lunch and play with our friends which then helps us to feel ready for the afternoon and the learning which will take place then.
We often have a guided reading or writing session in small groups whilst the class enjoys continuous play provision or special enhancement activities.
We also have fun learning about Religion, Understanding The World and Expressive Arts and Design. We have a Dance or other PE lesson with Miss Waldron.
No wonder Reception are always so tired at the end of the day !

Thank you for your wonderful support.
The Reception Team
Thank you to all the parents who attended the welcome meeting. We hope you found it useful. If you missed it, please ask a member of the Reception staff if you have any questions. Copies of the powerpoint were sent home with your children.
There will be a meeting about the teaching of phonics and reading in the Reception class at 9am on Thursday 14th November 2019. Please come along if you can as we share information about how phonics and reading are taught, examples of activities the children will experience in school and ideas for you to support your children at home.
